The event of the murder of engineer Simegnew Bekele, happened on 26th July 2018 while in his own vehicle at a parking. The crime took place at Masqal Adhabaabay neighborhood, in Addis Ababa.

During the investigation of his murder, detectives confirmed that the assassination was carried out by foreign intelligence. Discoveries included that the bullet struck him in the right ear, destroyed parts of his head, causing his instant death.

Furthermore, the investigation uncovered that in the victim’s vehicle, there was an AK47 rifle, which was placed to set up a different story or to confuse the matter. That was done to make the story more suicidal. However, investigators have established that Cz 75 gun, was used to kill the engineer.

The death of engineer sparked a political uproar at the beginning, and later he was buried on July 29, 2018, at 11:20 p.m. Engineer Simegnew, was the first manager and the person responsible for the Abay Dam project since 2011.

The 53-year-old Engineer who graduated from the Faculty of Engineering at Addis Ababa University had been responsible for the construction of dam projects, such as Gilgel Gibe I and Gilgel Gibe II.

The Structure of the dam Mega Nile has caused controversy between Ethiopia, Egypt, and Sudan which is running in the Benishangul-Gumuz region on the close border with Sudan which can generate 6,000 megawatts of electricity, according to the Ethiopian government.

The dam project between the three countries made a contentious history in Africa. Recorded data of the dam, indicates that the project is a mega one. At the time of the completion, the project is estimated to be 1.8 km wide, 155m high; dam will highly raise Ethiopia’s electricity production. Hence, the Funding of the Abay Dam was provided by King Selman bin Abdul-Aziz Al Saud of Saudi Arabia.

THE PRIME LEAD OF THE OPERATION TO HOMICIDE CASE

The idea of the assassination plot of Engineer Simegnew, was architecture in UAE castle with Egyptian intelligence on 13th March 2018. On the 7th April 2018, the King of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, ordered one of his national security advisers Hazza bin Zayed, to execute the information on the engineer by helping the intelligence of Maser. Hazza bin Zayed, flown from Shariqa on 23rd May 2018, and landed at Addis Ababa’s at Booley Airport.

Bin Zayed, on his arrival, was taken to Golden Tulip Hotel and stayed in that Hotel for 14 days, to settle the assassination of Engineer Simegnew Bekele.

Reports indicated that on his arrival day, Bin Zayed was welcomed by an Egyptian intelligence officer, named Clonal Haitham Barakat Osman, who lived at the same hotel that he was booked for. Clonal Haitham was the financier master for the operation, who was appointed by the Egyptian government.

Egypt and the United Arab Emirates eventually won the case by using three Ethiopian police officers, and two mercenaries in the operation. This investigation shows that a police officer named (Danyel), killed the Engineer. The other two officers were on watch out, during the execution. Reports indicate that the crime was committed, with a pistol type Cz 75. At the end of the operation, the two mercenaries drew an Ak47 into the vehicle to mislead the investigation.

The assassination of the Engineer was an effort of the Egyptian government, to halt dam construction. The investigation concluded that the murder was carried out by Egyptian intelligence, with the help of the UAE government, using Ethiopian hands.”
